Another informative blog on reduced physician and staff productivity with the implementation of electronic medical records (“EMR”). Our practice implemented EMR in 2007. Since then, many of our physicians have endured productivity reductions.
This year, the implementation of ICD-10, Physician Quality Reporting System, and more advanced Meaningful Use stages will require much more work on the part of physicians. This will slow their productivity once again, or, additional staff in the form of scribes will need to be hired as another layer of cost gets added to their practices. Physician access will continue to decline, as physicians work harder for lower reimbursement.
Physicians need an EMR partner who understand clinical workflow, and the patient experience, particular to each individual specialty, and who will continue to improve their specialty’s content in the years ahead.
